BREWERS CAMP REPORT

- Todd Rosiak

On the field: A wild first few innings sealed the Brewers’ fate in an ugly 10-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The trouble started when Carlos Gomez dropped a routine fly ball to start the second inning. The Dodgers followed with three consecutive singles, and then with one out A.J. Ellis hit a three-run home run to make it 5-0. Matt Garza went two innings but only one of the five runs charged to him was earned. The Brewers didn’t manage a hit until the seventh, when Elian Herrera singled. Milwaukee has committed six errors and scored only three runs in its first two games. “You don’t ever want to play this way,” said manager Ron Roenicke. “I understand it’s early and that’s fine. But I don’t ever like playing like this.” Roenicke also said first baseman Adam Lind has been held out the last two days after his back tightened up while taking ground balls.

Cactus juice: Infielder Luis Jimenez used an old-school method to begin breaking in a new fielding glove. First he covered it in shaving cream, then wiped it down with a wet towel and put it in a microwave oven for 30 seconds. “It makes the leather softer,” said Jimenez, who said it will take several days before the glove is ready for a game. “I haven’t seen the shaving cream bit in a while,” catcher Jonathan Lucroy told Jimenez. Weather: 75 degrees, sunny and breezy.

Scoreboard: Dodgers 10, Brewers 1. Record: 0-2. Next game: Brewers vs. Rangers, 2:05 p.m. Saturday. Milwaukee RHP Wily Peralta vs. Texas LHP Ross Detwiler. TV — FS Wisconsin. Radio — AM-620.
