Anthony Davis and U.S. edge Aussies in tuneup

In a tuneup game for the Paris Olympics, the U.S. men’s basketball team beat Australia 98-92 on Monday in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Anthony Davis led the United States with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting with 14 rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 18 minutes, CBS.com reported.

Team USA at one point had a 24-point lead, but the advantage was just four points in the last minute. Tyrese Haliburton made back-to-back corner 3s late in the quarter to help save the U.S.

Australia’s big man,

Jock Landale, had a gamehigh 20 points on 9-for-12 shooting, plus seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Point guard Josh Giddey had 17 points on 7-for-18 shooting with eight rebounds and seven assists.

The U.S. team had 18 turnovers compared with 22 assists, a ratio sure to trouble coach Steve Kerr.

The Aussies’ problem was 3-point shooting; they made just 4 of 18.

The Americans next play Serbia in an exhibition game Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. Serbia will face the U.S. squad in the teams’ opening Olympic game July 28.

NASCAR: Ryan Blaney

won for the second time in five races by taking The Great American Getaway 400 on Sunday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.

Blaney’s No. 12 Ford jetted away on a restart with 23 laps left and easily topped Denny Hamlin by 1.312 seconds to back up his win last month at Iowa Speedway. Alex Bowman, William Byron and

LPGA: Ayaka Furue captured her first major title Sunday in the Evian Championsh­ip at Evianles-Bains, France.

She overcame a threestrok­e deficit with five holes to play by shooting 5-under during that stretch, capped by an eagle on No. 18.

Furue, 24, shot a 6under-par 65 to finish at 19-under, one shot better than third-round leader

Stephanie Kyriacou (67).

Patty Tavatanaki­t (63) was third, one stroke further back.

Furue won $1.2 million for her second LPGA victory. She also won the 2022 Scottish Open.
