UM rises again in AP poll after rout of Temple

Four games into the

2023 season, the unbeaten University of Miami rose in the AP Top 25 poll again Sunday after defeating Temple 41-7 on Saturday in its first road game of the season at Philadelph­ia’s Lincoln Financial Field.

The Hurricanes (4-0) climbed two spots to No. 18 in the AP ranking after their latest impressive performanc­e.

The USA Today LBM Coaches poll on Sunday also ranked Miami No. 18, up three spots from last week’s No. 21.

The Hurricanes, who finished 5-7 last season and began 2023 unranked, entered the AP rankings on Sept. 11 after upsetting then-No. 23 Texas A&M.

Miami now enters its lone open week of the season, meaning the Canes won’t play again until they return home to Hard Rock Stadium on Oct. 7 to begin their Atlantic Coast Conference slate against Georgia Tech (2-2, 1-1 ACC).

No. 25 Florida 22, Charlotte 7: Graham Mertz threw for 259 yards, Trey Smack kicked five field goals, but the defense was the story of the night as the host Gators smothered the 49ers.

Coming off an upset of then-No. 11 Tennessee, the Gators (3-1) started fast, scoring on their first four possession­s as Mertz completed his first seven passes. But the rest of the night was a struggle for the Florida offense.

Charlotte (1-3) stayed close as the 49ers repeatedly stopped the Gators when backed into their own territory, forcing Florida to settle for field goals.

No. 10 Oregon 42, No. 19 Colorado 6: Bo Nix passed for three touchdowns and rushed for one as the host Ducks (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12) relentless­ly pounded the Buffaloes (3-1, 0-1).

No. 6 Ohio State 17, No. 9 Notre Dame 14:

Chip Trayanum scored on a 1-yard run with one second left as the Buckeyes (4-1) stunned the host Irish (4-1).

No. 1 Georgia 49, UAB 21: Carson Beck accounted for four touchdowns and Brock Bowers made two scoring receptions as the host Bulldogs rolled over the Blazers.

No. 13 Alabama 24,

No. 15 Ole Miss 10: Jalen Milroe returned from a one-game benching to pass for 225 yards and a touchdown as the host Crimson Tide (3-1, 1-0 SEC) beat the Rebels (3-1, 0-1).

No. 17 North Carolina 41, Pitt 24: Drake Maye ran for two touchdowns and threw a scoring pass lefthanded as the Tar Heels (4-0, 1-0 ACC) breezed past the host Panthers (1-3, 0-1).

No. 18 Duke 41, Connecticu­t 7: Quarterbac­k Riley Leonard threw for

248 yards on 23-of-34 passing with a touchdown as the Blue Devils’ (4-0) defense dominated the host Huskies (0-4).
