Kristina: Didn’t We Almost Have It All

This new two-hour documentary chronicles the tragic family saga of music superstar Whitney Houston and Bobbi Kristina, Houston’s daughter with Bobby Brown. Both women’s lives ran on parallel tracks, leading each of them to turn to a heavy dependence on drugs and alcohol to cope with their complicated issues. Sadly but inevitably, their lives came to the same untimely end as a result. The film includes interviews with family, colleagues and friends who were part of Whitney and Bobbi Kristina’s inner circle.

8 PM ( AMC) MOVIE Southpaw

Written by “Sons of Anarchy” mentor Kurt Sutter, this expectedly gritty 2015 drama — directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) — draws a fine performance from Jake Gyllenhaal, playing a boxer who struggles to overcome an injury and a tragedy to defend his title against a cocky rival (Miguel Gómez). Forest Whitaker plays the hero’s new trainer in a solid cast that also includes Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris (“Skyfall”) and actual boxer Victor Ortiz.

8 PM ( HBO) MOVIE Irresistible

Jon Stewart both wrote and directed this 2020 political comedy, casting his former “Daily Show” correspondent Steve Carell in the starring role of Gary Zimmer, a Democratic Party campaign consultant left shattered by the results of the 2016 presidential election. After watching a viral video of a retired Marine colonel (Chris Cooper) giving a passionate speech defending illegal immigrants, Gary flies to the man’s Wisconsin hometown to persuade him to enter a local political race. Rose Byrne, Mackenzie Davis, Topher Grace, Will Sasso and Natasha Lyonne co-star

8 PM ( MAX) MOVIE Lost Boys: The Tribe

Corey Feldman reprises his role as Edgar Frog in this 2008 sequel to the 1987 horror-comedy blockbuster “The Lost Boys.” P.J. Pesce’s follow-up, which likewise mixes chills and laughs, stars Tad Hilgenbrink and Autumn Reeser as a former surfing pro and his sister who move to Luna Bay, Calif., following the death of their parents. They soon find themselves dealing with a local vampire gang led by another former surf pro (Angus Sutherland, halfbrother of Kiefer Sutherland from the original). A 2010 sequel, “Lost Boys: The Thirst,” immediately follows.

8 PM ( TCM) MOVIE The Produc

ers

Mel Brooks made his directorial debut and won an Oscar for writing this 1968 classic, wherein Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder strike comedy gold as a Broadway producer and his sidekick who hatch a plan to cash in by producing a surefire flop called “Springtime for Hitler.” Chaos ensues when the show improbably becomes a blockbuster hit. Equally inspired performances come from Christopher Hewett as the play’s director and Dick Shawn as the hippydippy actor who plays Hitler. Brooks and Wilder later collaborated on “Blazing Saddles,” which immediately follows.

8 PM ( BBCA) A Wild Year On Earth

“MayJune: A Time of Volatility” looks at an annual time of seasonal gear-shifting and the stirring of powerful forces of nature. Wild mustang herds gather on the grassland as violent tornadoes tear across the plains in the heart of North America. Meanwhile, monsoon season arrives in Southeast Asia, bringing with it the largest migration of rain on the planet and inundating the subcontinent. Laura Carmichael (“Downton Abbey”) narrates.

9 PM ( HALL) MOVIE Beverly Hills Wedding

When her kid sister gets engaged, small-town wedding photographer Molly (Brooke D’Orsay) typically takes control of things, with the best of intentions. She manages to win a dream wedding for the altar-bound couple, with the glamorous ceremony held at a historic Beverly Hills hotel and coordinated by “planner to the stars” Terrence Roquefort (Matthew MacCaull). When the bride and groom start to feel overwhelmed by it all, though, Molly must stop and ask herself whose dreams she’s trying to fulfill. Brendan Penny also stars in this 2021 romantic comedy.

9 PM ( SHO) MOVIE True History of the Kelly Gang

Justin Kurzel’s 2019 action adventure, adapted from a 2000 novel of the same title by Peter Carey, offers a heavily fictionalized account of the life and exploits of bushranger and outlaw Ned Kelly as he and his gang flee from relentless pursuit by authorities during the 1870s. While it may not work as a history textbook, however, the film benefits from a fine cast headed by George MacKay (“1917”) as Ned, along with Russell Crowe, Nicholas Hoult, Essie Davis (“Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”) and Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”).
