Woodland 6, Colusa 5 Despite a valiant effort, Colusa saw a bid to reach the championship game at the Sutter Spring Classic slip away Thursday as they were edged by Woodland in extra innings.

Facing the Wolves’ Oregon State bound lefty Cooper Hjerpe, the Redhawks showed no fear jumping out to a 5-1 lead capitalizing as Hjerpe struggled with control and sloppy play from his infield.

Yet Woodland rallied for two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game and pushed across an unearned run in the top of the eighth to which the Redhawks could not answer.

Blake Steidlmayer and Drew Brabury finished with two hits a piece while Leo Guzman, Conner Saso, Clayton Angus and Cody Free each singled.

Up next for the Colusa Redhawks (20-5) is a showdown in Winters on Tuesday to determine control of the Sacramento Valley League.
