Marysville city manager plans to showcase a healthy budget during workshop Thursday

-

was initially expected, Brown said. Exact totals won’t be available until an audit is completed, she said.

Another topic that will be discussed at the upcoming meeting will be about the city’s plan to build a general fund reserve. The upcoming budget calls for a starting cash balance – or discretionary funds – of roughly $800,000, in addition to another $200,000 that will be put away in reserves.

The city’s general fund – or designated funds – is about $9 million annually, Brown said.

One of the things the proposed budget won’t have, as opposed to last year, is a budget for revenues generated from the cannabis tax (Measure F).

Brown said last year’s budget projected out on what officials thought the cannabis tax would bring in. However, because the approved dispensaries haven’t opened, the funds didn’t pan out. By intentionally leaving those projections out of the upcoming budget, the city will likely have more money to work with once one of the dispensaries starts generating revenue – likely to happen later this year.

Other topics of discussion include proposed plans to increase certain services for residents and city positions – including additional dispatchers and a full-time code enforcement officer.

The workshop is planned for Thursday at 6 p.m. at 723 D Street, Marysville. Those who attend should enter the building on the south side and back of the building via the parking lot.
