ROUNDUP: Sutter baseball gets non-league win

Five other 49ers were named first-team All-BVC – Magdalena Gonzalez, Anjelica Cisneros, Stephanie Benton, Dustyne Steele and Shyanna Norris.

BVC statistics through 13 games had Hicks, a freshman, with a 5-0 record with a 3.18 earnedrun average. In 33 innings pitched she had 40 strikeouts and only three walks.

Gonzalez batted .606 in league and had an .848 slugging percentage and those weren’t even team highs. Steele topped her with averages of .619 and .952 respectively. And Cisneros topped the 49ers with 17 RBI in conference, followed by Gonzalez with 15 and Steele 13. Of the team’s four BVC home runs, Steele had two, Gonzalez one. Steele also had team-highs with eight doubles and 32 runs scored.

Norris hit .345 in conference with four stolen bases. Benton batted .375 with five RBI. HIGH SCHOOL

BASEBALL Sutter 16, Valley Christian 5,

5 inn. In Sacramento – Kyle Boomgaarden was 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBI as the Huskies (187) beat their opponents from Roseville in one of four games in the Albie Swing’n For A Cure showcase at Sacramento City College. Proceeds from the day are slated to go toward breast cancer research.

Also for the Huskies, Michael Boomgarden was 2 for 3 with a two-run homer and a double, Zach Yacavace had a double and an RBI, Jack Enos was 2 for 2 with five RBI and a double and Zach Bryan had a double and two RBI.

Bryan was one of three pitchers for Sutter along with starter Todd Carr and Ryan Larsen.

The Huskies can secure sole possession of another Butte View League title at home Tuesday with a win over Gridley on what is Sutter’s Senior Day.
