Tam's 3-run outburst downs Branson

Tam High scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to burst past the Branson School, 5-2, in Tuesday's MCAL baseball action. Red-tailed Hawks junior Maxwell Fiek doubled and scored, and junior Finnegran McGrane drove in two runs for the Hawks (6-5, 5-2 MCAL).

Tam starter Eli Solem struck out seven batters and walked four, while he held Branson (2-8, 0-7) to three hits across 5 1/3 innings. Reliever Jackson Van Til took over in the sixth and didn't allow another base runner.

• Redwood scored four runs in the top of the third inning and made the lead hold up in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over Marin Catholic. Matthew Knauer led the Giants (7-0, 6-0 MCAL) with two hits and two RBI, while Gavin Soper and Theo Trono also had two hits each. Redwood's Matthew Knauer and Chas Veley combined to strike out eight batters while giving up seven hits.

Hunter Valla, Jude Baker and Carson Davis had two hits each for Marin Catholic (5-3, 3-3).

• Hornets sophomore Julian Oliver homered and Novato broke out for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat San Rafael, 4-1, on Tuesday. Oliver drove in all four runs for the Hornets and freshman Gio Castaing tripled and scored twice. Novato's Griffin Vorhaus struck out seven batters and walked one as he gave up six hits in a complete game.

• Archie Williams shut

out Terra Linda, 6-0, on Tuesday. The Peregrine Falcons (3-5, 2-2) held the Trojans (0-7, 0-6) batters to six hits.

• San Domenico beat host Stuart Hall Knights on Tuesday, 10-1, behind a masterful effort from Oliver Swain on the mound. Swain gave up two hits and struck out 14 batters across 6 2/3 innings before handing the ball off to Hank Figueroa for the final out. Swain added a timely two-out hit to drive in a pair of runs. Alex Tavano was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI as well. Will Rothstein added two RBI of his own on a double in the seventh.

Prep softball

Amanda Postel delivered a single in the top of the seventh that led to three runs for San Marin in a 4-1 win against Marin Catholic on Monday night.

San Marin (4-3, 3-0 MCAL) entered the top of the seventh in a 1-1 tie with MC. Postel singled with the bases loaded to score Avery Bishop, who led off with a single. Postel was thrown out at second base but San Marin scored two more runs on the play following an error by MC.

San Marin starter Brittany

Casper went seven innings, allowing seven hits, one earned run and striking out four. Casper and Leah Cronin had two hits apiece for the Mustangs. MC (3-11, 2-1) was led offensivel­y by Selena Peña (two hits, RBI) and Grace Berringer (two hits).

• Tam was limited to three hits in a 16-0 loss to American Canyon in five innings on Tuesday. Zoe Pletcher had a double fot the Red-tailed Hawks (26), who surrendere­d seven runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth.

Boys golf

Terra Linda edged Redwood, 200-202, at Meadow Club. The Giants' Cole O'Connel was low medalist for the day with an evenpar 35, while the Trojans' Stephan Roeck shot a career-best 38. Terra Linda had three players tied at 40, while Redwood had two players at 40.

• Charlie Wilhelm shot a 3-over 33 at San Francisco's Fleming 9 Golf Course on Tuesday to lead Marin Academy past Stuart Hall Hall, 149-167. Dylan Siegel followed at 36 as the Wildcats improved to 4-0. Stuart Hall was led by Matthew Waller at 39.

Boys tennis

The Branson School swept doubles play as the Bulls won two of the matches in super-tiebreaker­s to beat host Novato, 5-2, on Monday. Kasra Panahi and Chris Mao rebounded against the Hornets' Eli Hutchins and Diego Seligman-Tovar 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8), at No. 2 doubles. The Bulls' Cooper Little and Derin Demirkol beat Miles Harris and Michael Zhou at No. 3 doubles.

Cross country

Marin County resident Munir Kabbara, a former San Rafael High School standout runner, just qualified for the World Athletics Cross Country Championsh­ips, to be held March 30 in Belgrade, Serbia. A 2018 San Rafael grad, he was a three-time CIF State qualifier in cross country and North Coast Section champion in 2017. Kabbara was the first ever athlete from San Rafael High School to win an NCS individual championsh­ip. He went on to compete at UCLA.

College baseball

Marin scored twice early in a tight 3-2 loss against host Laney College on Tuesday. Wyatt Davis and Benny Nazario both doubled for the Mariners (149, 3-1 BVC). Laney scored the winning run in the seventh inning. The same two teams are scheduled to meet again on Thursday.

College volleyball

Dominican University announced Monday that Tim Loesch has been hired to coach the Penguins next season. Loesch has 15 years of experience in the NCAA Division II with the past eight seasons at the University of Texas Permian Basin. While with the Falcons, Loesch delivered the first winning season since 2011 and the best winning percentage of the last decade with a 20-9 mark in 2019. He coached 13 all-conference players for UTPB and advanced to the conference tournament four times.
