Survey says: More plant-based foods
A survey by Plant-based Advocates, a Los Gatos-based grassroots advocacy group that promotes plant-based diets, was supportive of the group’s efforts to get more plant-based items on local restaurant menus.
Of 235 respondents, 86% were in favor of more plant-based menu items. Residents of Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Monte Sereno and the Cambrian area of San Jose were surveyed from January through March. The survey was distributed via Facebook, Nextdoor, Patch and the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce newsletter.
Respondents’ dietary habits varied: 27% indicated they were vegan, while the rest were either vegetarian or omnivores. Of the 173 respondents in the latter group, 73% said they wanted to eat more plant-based food.

Open Studios online
Silicon Valley Open Studios— the longstanding event where South Bay artists showcase their work and workspaces — is going virtual again this year with an online art show and sale throughout the month of May.
Sales will help provide free arts programs for children who are underserved or experiencing homelessness via Drawbridge, which will receive 15% of all proceeds.
Last fall’s virtual open studios event raised more than $4,000 for Second Harvest Food Bank, said SVOS executive director Stephen Toll.
The spring show will go live Saturday. More than 100 artists will display over 600 pieces of art, including painting, fiber arts, mixed media, jewelry, sculpture and ceramics. Except for photographs and prints, each artwork is one of a kind.
To view the show, visit www. svos.org and click on “Member Artists.” Visitors can search by artists’ names or by the type of art.
