Only two Eagles were willing to make White House visit

Eagles players and officials made individual decisions to not go to the White House for a scheduled celebratio­n of their Super Bowl title, leaving two players actually planning to make the trip to Washington before the visit was canceled by President Trump, according to players and a person familiar with the arrangemen­ts.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivit­y of the issues.

The Baltimore Ravens have been fined by the NFL and forced to forfeit two days of practice this week for violating offseason workout rules. The NFL cited the team for pass coverage contact during earlier offseason team activity sessions, according to coach John Harbaugh, who was also fined.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster pleaded no contest to a misdemeano­r assault weapon possession charge, closing a legal chapter that included domestic-violence charges being thrown out because his accuser recanted. Michael Norman of USC won his 400-meters heat in 44.55 seconds at the NCAA outdoor track and field championsh­ips in Eugene, Ore., to advance to Friday’s final. Former men’s basketball coach Larry Farmer heads an eight-member class that will be inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame on Oct. 5. Red Schoendien­st, the Hall of Fame second baseman who managed the St. Louis Cardinals to two pennants and a World Series championsh­ip in the 1960s, died Wednesday. He was 95.
