Nets fire Hollins

The Brooklyn Nets fired Coach Lionel Hollins and reassigned General Manager Billy King. The Nets ( 10- 27), 14th in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, said assistant Tony Brown will be interim coach, and the GM position will remain open until a replacemen­t is hired.

Nevada Las Vegas basketball Coach Dave Rice resigned in the middle of his fifth season after the Runnin’ Rebels ( 9- 7) opened Mountain West Conference play with three losses. Associate head coach Todd Simon will serve as interim coach for the rest of the season Rice was 98- 54 at UNLV.

Arizona’s No. 7- ranked men’s basketball team will be without star freshman Allonzo Trier for up to sixweeks after he broke his right hand during Saturday’s four- overtime loss to USC.

In skiing, Lindsey Vonn won a women’s super- G at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Austria, her second World Cupvictory in as many days. . . . Henrik Kristoffer­sen of Norway won a men’s World Cup slalom at Adelboden, Switzerlan­d.

In tennis, Milos Raonic beat Roger Federer, 6- 4, 6- 4, in the final of the Brisbane Internatio­nal, an Australian Open warmup tournament. . . . Stan Wawrinka won the Chennai Open in India for the fourthtime, beating Croatian teenager Borna Coric, 6- 3, 7- 5.

In speedskati­ng, Brittany Bowe and Joey Mantia won 1,000- meter races at the U.S. Long Track Championsh­ips in West Allis, Wis. . . . John- Henry Krueger won the men’s 1,000- and 3,000- meter finals at the U.S. Short Track Championsh­ips in Salt Lake City. . . . Dutch skater Sven Kramer won the European championsh­ips for a record eighth time at Minsk, Belarus.

Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to race in Formula One, diedin Rome at 89. DeFilippis made three starts for the Maserati team in 1958, finishing 10th at Spa-Francorcha­mps in Belgium for her best result.
