MISSING WOMAN FOUND AFTER 2 WEEKS

Sahray Astina Barber is reunited with her family, but police decline to release further details.

A San Bernardino woman was found safe after being missing for nearly two weeks amid residents’ fears that she might have been abducted because of recent attacks on women at a nearby college campus.

Sahray Astina Barber, 22, was “located in good physical condition” and has been reunited with her family, San Bernardino police officials announced in a statement early Friday.

Barber had been missing since March 9, when she was last seen leaving her home across the street from Cal State San Bernardino. Her phone and laptop were found intact in some bushes near a parking lot, but there were no signs of a struggle.

Barber’s disappearance took on a higher profile than typical missing-persons cases because twice in the last few weeks women have been attacked at the university.

In the most recent incident, a man approached a woman from behind, put his hand over her mouth and said, “Come on, let’s go for a ride in my car,” before she fought him off.

Two weeks ago, a woman fought off an attempted sexual assault in the school library.

But police Friday didn’t provide any details on where Barber had been since her disappearance.

“There are several questions that will need to be answered in the coming days as investigators in this case were given conflicting information from several people who were directly related to the investigation,” police said in a statement. “We are happy to report a good ending to a very serious case.”

Two people were sought as persons of interest in Barber’s disappearance, police said this week. It was unclear if they were ultimately connected to Barber’s whereabouts. A department spokesman was not available to comment Friday.
