AT THE PLATE: The Angels might want to put Mike Trout in cold storage until the April 6 season opener in Seattle. The center fielder had two singles, a walk and two runs in three plate appearances and is batting .556 (10 for 18) with five walks and three stolen bases on the spring. David Freese hit an opposite-field, two-run homer to right field, his first, off left-hander John Danks in the first and walked in the sixth. Erick Aybar had two hits.

ON THE MOUND: Closer Huston Street, slowed by a stomach virus, pitched for the first time in a week and looked rusty, giving up a single to J.B. Shuck, two walks and a sacrifice fly before being removed with two outs in the fourth. “It was just one of those work days for him when he’s trying to make some pitches,” Manager Mike Scioscia said. “Very rarely are you going to see him walk two guys in an inning.” Left-hander Cesar Ramos’ first pitch of the sixth was crushed for a homer to right by left-handed-hitting Rob Brantly.

EXTRA BASES: Taylor Featherston continued a strong bid for the utility infield job. The middle infielder has little professional experience at third base but made a nice back-hand stop of Matt Davidson’s shot down the line to end the sixth inning. “For a young kid learning how to play third, he looks great on the practice field and great in games,” Scioscia said. “That’s certainly something we’re looking at very closely, his ability to play the left side.” … In addition to pitcher Sean Newcomb, pitchers Trevor Gott, Atahualpa Severino and Nate Smith, catchers Stephen McGee and Jackson Williams and shortstop Eric Stamets were reassigned to minor league camp Sunday.
