Stanford wins on late three-pointer
LAS VEGAS — Chasson Randle made a three-point basket with 2.4 seconds to play to give Stanford a 71-69 victory over Washington on Wednesday in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament.
Randle made only three of 11 shots, but his attempt from beyond the arc was perfect to set up the Cardinal for a quarterfinal matchup against Utah on Thursday.
Stefan Nastic scored 21 points for Stanford (19-12).
Andrew Andrews had 22 points for Washington (1615), which shot 52.8% from the field and made 13 of 20 three-pointers but was 0 for 3 from the foul line.
California 84, Washington State 59: David Kravish had 25 points and eight rebounds, lifting the hotshooting Golden Bears.
Cal (18-14) turned a close game into a rout with an impressive shooting display, making 14 of 15 shots spanning halftime to build a 17point lead. Jordan Mathews added 19 points for the Bears.
The eight-seeded Bears shot 58.5% overall and made eight of 12 from three-point range to earn a spot in Thursday’s quarterfinals against No. 5 and top-seeded Arizona.
Washington State (13-18), the tournament’s No. 9 seeding, struggled defensively and failed to make a threepoint shot until late in the second half.
Colorado 78, Oregon State 71: Josh Scott had 16 points and 14 rebounds, Askia Booker added 20 points and the Buffaloes pulled away at the finish.
Colorado (15-16) traded shots with Beavers in an entertaining first half before stretching its lead in the second half behind Booker and Scott. Booker made three three-pointers during a key run midway through the second half and nine of 10 free throws overall.
Tre’Shaun Fletcher added 12 points for 10th-seeded Colorado, which moves on to face second-seeded Oregon in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Oregon State (17-14) had a hard time containing the Buffaloes in the second half, allowing them to make 13 of 23 shots.
Gary Payton II and Malcolm Duvivier had 17 points for the Beavers.
