Martin Minasian

November 5, 1915 - September 7, 2022

Our treasured father passed away at the age of 106, surrounded by family in Los Angeles. Born in Milford, MA, Marty was the oldest of Harry and Alice Minasian’s four children. After many moves during his childhood, the family landed back in Milford, running the local gas station. But Marty had higher ambitions, traveling back and forth to Boston in his 1933 Ford Model A, earning a Mechanical Engineering degree from Wentworth. In the 1940s, he drove across the country with a friend, stopping along the way at many sights, including the yet-tobe-completed Mount Rushmore.

Late in the 1950s, the family relocated to Los Angeles, where Marty’s girls, Sandra (Michael) and Janice (Shawn), were born. Unfortunately, Marty’s beloved wife Rose passed when the girls were five and two respectively, requiring him to juggle being a single parent, while continuing to work at Litton Industries, designing airplane parts.

After retiring, his life was filled with golfing, bike riding (even on a stationary bike until age 105), spending time with family and friends, and frequenting estate sales. He loved art and classical music, attending LA Philharmonic rehearsals at the Hollywood Bowl nearly weekly during their season.

Marty loved to talk to everyone; there was never a dull moment in a conversation with him as he created strong connections with people of all ages. He cherished the bonds of family and friends, always sending notes and calling people. In his later years, friends and family from across the country would regularly visit to spend time with “Uncle Marty.” His annual Christmas Eve party drew a raucous crowd of friends and family for appetizers, desserts, Brandy Alexanders, and, of course, great stories.

In addition to his daughters, he is survived by two grandchildren, Eric and Katie, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who have great stories about this 106-year-old Superman. He will be dearly missed and remembered by many.

Please make donations in his name to the Youth Orchestra of the LA Philharmonic, laphil.com/ support/give-now, notating YOLA. A private service will be held on October 1, 2022.
