Randolph and Fox keep offense rolling as Kings tally season-high assists in Dallas

DALLAS — Zach Randolph had 22 points and seven rebounds and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 19 points as the Kings ended a two-game losing streak with a 114-109 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center.

The win moved the Kings to 18-38, one game ahead of Atlanta, Phoenix and Dallas for worst record in the NBA.

The Kings, who shot 54 percent, jumped out to a 29-16 lead after one quarter and led by as many as 26.

Sacramento ends its three-game trip Wednesday at Houston and then will be off until Feb. 22 for the All-Star break.

J.J. Barea led the Mavericks (18-40) with 19 points and 13 assists.

Randolph had been the Kings’ most consistent offensive player before the team started resting its veterans more frequently. Not playing every game led to struggles for him.

The Kings scrapped that rest plan because of injuries, and Randolph looks to be returning to form. He entered Tuesday’s game averaging 14.4 points and shooting 50 percent in February.

De’Aaron Fox doesn’t have to put up big scoring numbers to influence the outcome. He scored just 11 points, but had seven assists and helped the Kings play at a pace that allowed everyone to get involved.

Fox’s rookie counterpart, Dennis Smith Jr., had more points (17), but it would be a stretch to say Fox was outplayed.

Vince Carter came off the bench to tally a season-high seven assists. It’s a testament to how the Kings moved the ball and how hot they were on offense.

With no true backup point guard until Frank Mason III returns from his heel injury, the Kings need everyone to chip in to keep the offense flowing.

The Kings had 30 assists Tuesday, a season high, and turned the ball over just nine times.
