Harper back, powers Phils’ blitz of Mets

- From staff and wire reports

Bryce Harper homered, doubled and drove in three runs to help unbeaten Ranger Suarez become the majors’ first eight-game winner this season as streaking Philadelphia defeated the visiting New York Mets 10-5 on Wednesday.

Harper returned to the Phillies’ lineup after missing Tuesday’s game because of a migraine. The two-time National League MVP from Las Vegas showed no ill effects in the first inning when he hit a solo shot to the opposite field in left-center off Joey Lucchesi (0-1) to tie it 1-all.

Suarez (8-0) lowered his ERA to 1.37, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and two walks in five innings as Philadelphia notched its third straight win over the Mets and 16th in 19 games overall to boost the majors’ best record to 31-13.

Play began in a persistent drizzle that worsened into cold, wet, windy conditions until clearing up late. After the Mets went up 2-1 in the third, when the Phillies committed an error and threw a wild pitch, Philadelphia took the lead for good with four runs in the fifth, capped by Harper’s two-run double to left-center.
