Lady Rebels overcome eight-point deficit to slip past Colorado State

Amarachi Kimpson had 20 points and Desi-rae Young 16 points and 14 rebounds to help rally UNLV past Colorado State 67-64 in a Mountain West women’s basketball game at Cox Pavilion. The Lady Rebels (21-2, 11-1) overcame an eight-point third-quarter deficit and went ahead to stay with 7:56 left in their sixth straight win. The game had 11 lead changes and four ties. Marta Leimane had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Sanna Strom 17 points and Mckenna Hofschild 13 points for the Rams (15-9, 6-7), who were outrebound­ed 42-32 — including 12-2 on the offensive end.

■ Women’s basketball: UNLV senior center Desi-rae Young and Colorado State senior guard Mckenna Hofschild are among 10 semifinali­sts for the Becky Hammon Award, presented annually since 2020 to the top mid-major player. The Mountain West is the lone conference with multiple semifinali­sts. Young, a Desert Oasis product, is one of four players to be a two-time semifinali­st.

■ Men’s basketball: Coach Chris Holtmann was fired in his seventh season with a 137-86 record. The 52-year-old is owed the $12.8 million left on a three-year extension signed in 2022. The Buckeyes (14-11, 4-10 Big Ten) have lost 16 straight road games.

■ Football: Notre Dame will face Army on Nov. 23 at Yankee Stadium to mark the 100th anniversar­y of the Fighting Irish’s 13-7 upset of the Black Knights in

New York that featured Notre Dame’s “Four Horsemen” backfield.

■ Baseball: Las Vegas Ballpark will host the inaugural College Baseball Classic from March 1 to 3, with two games each day, featuring California, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Pittsburgh.
