White Sox fire executive VP Williams, GM Hahn

The Chicago White Sox have fired executive vice president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn, cutting ties with their leadership on the baseball side amid another disappoint­ing season. Williams was in his 11th season in his position after serving as the club’s general manager for 12 seasons. He was one of baseball’s most prominent Black executives. Hahn had been the GM since October 2012. The White Sox are finishing a miserable season. They had a 49-76 record heading into their game Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners. Chicago made the playoffs in 2020 and 2021, and then went 81-81 last year.

■ Dodgers: Los Angeles placed designated hitter J.D. Martinez on the injured list with groin tightness. The Dodgers recalled infielder Michael Busch from Triple-a Oklahoma City to fill the roster spot. The 36-year-old Martinez hasn’t played since Saturday. He recently underwent an MRI and an epidural injection while being slowed by hamstring tightness and a lower back issue.

■ Yankees: New York recalled outfielder Everson Pereira and infielder Oswald Peraza from Triple-a Scranton/ Wilkes Barre. The Yankees also activated Carlos Rodón on Tuesday from the 15-day injured list. Outfielder Billy Mckinney was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower back spasm and outfielder Greg Allen was designated for assignment.

■ Rays: Wander Franco has been placed on administra­tive leave indefinite­ly by Major League Baseball while authoritie­s in the Dominican Republic investigat­e the Tampa Bay Rays’ All-star shortstop for an alleged relationsh­ip with a minor. The 22-year-old will be paid and receive service time while on administra­tive leave under an agreement with the players’ associatio­n that did not set a timetable for a decision on whether he will be discipline­d.

■ Astros: Houston slugger Yordan Alvarez was scratched from lineup Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox after slamming his hand in a door at home and injuring his left index finger. Manager Dusty Baker said the injury wasn’t serious, but that the finger was sore.

■ Nationals: Washington and manager Dave Martinez have agreed to a new multiyear contract. It is for two years, according to a person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the terms were not announced.

■ Mariners: Seattle signed Luke Weaver to a one-year contract and reinstated fellow right-hander Bryan Woo from the 15-day injured list. Weaver had been released by Cincinnati on Friday.
