Nevada fishing report

■ Lake Mead — Cooler days have made for better fishing for bass and catfish. Success has been moderate for stripers, catfish and smallmouth bass in the Overton Arm. Largemouth bass are hitting imitation plastics and swimbaits. Catfish and stripers have been caught in Las Vegas Bay area coves using anchovies and chicken livers.

■ Lake Mohave/willow Beach — The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery is stocking rainbow trout weekly. Trout are hitting Powerbait and night crawlers. Stripers are taking jointed swimbaits throughout the reservoir. Black bass have been caught along the Cottonwood Cove shelves. Smallmouth are hitting plastics, and striped bass are hitting swimbaits and anchovies.

■ Laughlin — Stocked rainbow trout are hitting night crawlers and Powerbait through Casino Row. Stripers averaging 2 to 3 pounds are biting jointed swimbaits and anchovies. Smallmouth bass are hitting Rat-l-traps and plastics south through Big Bend in the Colorado State Recreation Area.

■ Las Vegas urban ponds — Catfish have been caught with hot dogs and chicken gizzards. The year’s last seasonal catfish plant is planned for the last week of October. Yellow fishing line bins are provided for unwanted line and tackle. Please help keep the shorelines clean by using the bins.

■ Kirch Wildlife Management

Area — Cold winds are bringing cooler weather. The bass and crappie bites will slow in the days’ cooler hours, but the fish will be active in the late afternoons. Trout fishing is expected to be good throughout the day. Olive and red flies and lures are recommende­d to entice trout and bass.

■ Eagle Valley Reservoir — Cooler weather is making for prime fishing time, with trout action continuall­y improving. Fish will be more active near the shore as aquatic vegetation thins out. Bass will hit crankbaits later in the day, and trout will take worms and spinnerbai­ts.

■ Echo Canyon Reservoir —

Weekend weather conditions are looking favorable. The water level remains low, creating muddy shorelines. Rainbow trout and bass are taking bright-colored lures and flies. Check for topwater action to see if the fish are rising or holding down low.
