Bellinger’s error helps Giants top rival Dodgers

SAN FRANCISCO — Buster Posey scored the tiebreakin­g run on a throwing error by first baseman Cody Bellinger in the eighth inning, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Blake Treinen (2-5) walked Posey and Mike Yastrzemsk­i to begin the eighth. Darin Ruf hit a grounder to second baseman Max Muncy, who began to chase Yastrzemsk­i back toward first before throwing Ruf out.

Bellinger, making his first start of the season at first base in order to rest his sore hamstring, then pump-faked toward second before launching a throw well over third baseman Justin Turner’s head and into the protective netting along the third base line as the crowd of 32,878 roared.

Posey, who was on his way to third, scored easily.

The Giants (63-37) increased their NL West lead to three games over the rival Dodgers.

Posey had two hits and an RBI. Austin Slater also had two hits for San Francisco.

Tyler Rogers (2-1) retired three batters to get the win. Jake Mcgee pitched the ninth for his 21st save.

■ Brewers 9, Pirates 0: At Pittsburgh, Omar Narvaez homered and had four RBIS to back Brett Anderson (3-5), who yielded three hits while striking out three and walking one in six innings.

■ Nationals 6, Phillies 4: At Philadelph­ia, Juan Soto hit a three-run homer for Washington, which snapped a five-game losing streak but still have won only twice in its past 15 games. CSN product Bryce Harper hit his first career inside-the-park homer, doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Philadelph­ia.

■ Marlins 7, Orioles 3: At Baltimore, Sandy León hit a three-run homer in the second inning to back Sandy Alcantara (6-9), who allowed three runs and six hits in six-plus innings.

■ Braves 12, Mets 5: At New York, Austin Riley hit a grand slam and a two-run homer to set a career high with six RBIS. Charlie Morton (10-3) earned the win after allowing three runs and five hits with five strikeouts over five innings.

■ Cardinals 4, Indians 2: At Cleveland,

Paul Dejong hit a go-ahead homer to back Adam Wainwright (8-6), who struck out eight in seven innings and earned his 175th career victory.

■ White Sox 5, Royals 3: At Kansas City, Mo., Eloy Jiménez logged his first big hit of the season, launching a go-ahead, three-run homer in the eighth inning.

■ Rangers 5, Diamondbac­ks 4: At Arlington, Texas, Bishop Gorman product Joey Gallo hit his first home run since the All-star break and also had two assists from right field

■ Reds 7, Cubs 4: At Chicago, Joey Votto hit two home runs and has now homered in a career-high four consecutiv­e games for the second time (April 2018), one game shy of the team record.

■ Tigers 6, Twins 5: At Minneapoli­s, Miguel Cabrera hit an RBI single in the 11th inning after Eric Haase tied the game with a grand slam with one out in the top of the ninth.
