Providence tops Depaul in two OTS

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — David Duke scored 24 points, including the clinching free throws with a half minute to play, as Providence defeated Depaul 95-90 in double overtime Sunday.

Duke also made two free throws with 2:46 left, putting the Friars (6-3, 2-1 Big East) up 89-88. A.J. Reeves followed with two free throws after a miss by the Blue Demons (1-1, 0-1), and then Nate Watson broke free for a dunk that made it 93-88 with less than a minute to go.

Romeo Weems scored a career-high 21 points and had seven rebounds for DePaul, which forced a second overtime when Pauly Paulicap scored on a layup with 40 seconds left in the first extra period.

Reeves, who totaled 22 points, hit a tying 3-pointer with six seconds left in regulation and missed a possible winning 3 in the final second of the first overtime.

Watson had 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Noah Horchler added 10 points and seven rebounds for Providence.

■ Vanderbilt 87, Alcorn State 59: At Nashville, Tenn., sophomore Scotty Pippen Jr. hit five 3-pointers and totaled a career-high 30 points for the Commodores (4-2), who held the Braves to 37-percent shooting — including a 3-for21 showing on 3-pointers. Youngstown State 74: At Cleveland, Tre Gomillion scored a career-high 23 points on 11-for-12 shooting for the Vikings (4-3, 4-0 Horizon), who edged the Penguins (4-3, 1-3) to reach 4-0 in league play for the first time in 10 seasons.

63: At Terre Haute, Ind., D.J. Wilkins scored 22 points for the Bulldogs (10-0, 1-0 Missouri Valley), who downed the Sycamores (3-3, 0-1) to become the first team to reach 10 wins this season.

Bay 77: At Dayton, Ohio, Jaylon Hall scored a career-high 22 points for the Raiders (6-1, 4-0 Horizon), who won their sixth straight. Amari Davis had a career-high 35 points for the Phoenix (0-8, 0-4).
