Athletics 8, Tigers 3 —

At Detroit, rookie Matt Olson homered, becoming the first Oakland player to homer in four straight games since 2013, giving him 14 home runs in his past 20 games, and Jed Lowrie drove in three runs for the A’s. Detroit reliever Jeff Ferrell exited in the eighth after being hit in the head by a 102.6-mph liner. He never went down but jogged immediatel­y toward the Tigers’ dugout and was escorted to their clubhouse.

Phillies 4, Dodgers 3 — At Philadelph­ia, Aaron Altherr hit a grand slam, the first given up by Clayton Kershaw (17-4), who allowed four runs on four hits and struck out six in six innings while falling to 3-5 in his career against Philadelph­ia. Chris Taylor and Justin Turner led off with consecutiv­e homers, and Curtis Granderson also went deep for Los Angeles. Rookie Nick Pivetta (6-10) allowed two runs and struck out eight over six innings.

Brewers 3, Pirates 0 — At Pittsburgh, Brent Suter (3-2) blanked Pittsburgh on five hits and struck out four over five innings, and Ryan Braun, Travis Shaw and Neil Walker had two hits apiece. Braun hit his 17th home run, Travis had his teambest 96th RBI, and Walker drove in a run against his former team as Milwaukee pulled within 3 1/2 games of Chicago atop the NL Central and within two games of Colorado for the final NL wild card.

Marlins 13, Mets 1 — At Miami, Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run shot for his 55th home run, and first in nine days, and added an RBI single in Miami’s seven-run fifth as the Marlins won for the fourth time in 21 games. Marcell Ozuna’s four hits included his 34th home run, and Dee Gordon’s four hits included a two-run triple as Miami lit up Matt Harvey (5-6) for seven runs on 12 hits in four-plus innings.

Padres 4, Diamondbac­ks 2 — At San Diego, Hunter Renfroe hit a three-run in his first game back from Triple-a El Paso, and Austin Hedges also connected off Patrick Corbin (14-13). Renfroe was demoted on Aug. 18 to work on his hitting. Luis Perdomo (8-10) held NL wild card-leading Arizona to two runs over 5 1/3 innings despite giving up four hits and six walks. Corbin yielded four runs on four hits over five innings.
