Lone Pine varsity team sets league record with 12-0 season Lady Eagles volleyball heads into post season play

The Lone Pine High School volleyball team hosted Immanuel Christian on Tuesday in the Hi-Lo League final. It turned out to be a match that all had anticipate­d with the Lady

Eagles coming out on top in a 5 game thriller 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 18-25, 15-8.

Lone Pine was the defending co-champions with Immanuel Christian in 2019 (pre-COVID) when both squads went 13-1 in league play (each winning on their home courts). Then 2021 became a different story for a determined team of 17 players as it was the Lady Eagles taking care of business to finish undefeated with a 12-0 league record (including two forfeit wins), 19-4 overall.

“These kids just are workhorses in general, they come to compete and learn each day, I am proud of each and every one of them,” said Coach Mel Joseph.

Game 1 turned into a battle of offense versus defense with the Lady Crusaders winning the defensive battle. In game 2 the Lady Eagles were aggressive offensivel­y which frustrated Immanuel Christian.

In game 3 Lone Pine played solid from start to finish earning a close game victory. Game 4 saw Immanuel Christian jump out to a 7 point lead and they were able to maintain separation, to get the win setting up a fifth and deciding game.

Game 5 was all Lone Pine, Dominique Enriquez served 4 straight points to get the early lead sparking the crowd, including the LPHS Football team who had just arrived from practice, helping to keep the momentum going on the home team side that along with solid play propelled the Lady Eagles to victory.

Prior to the match, Coach Joseph in his 30th season at LPHS honored his five seniors: Juanita Joseph, Jessica Milsap, Airam Avalos, Kayla Daughtry and Lheslie

– Juanita Joseph 17/19 serving, 2 aces, 28 kills and 14 digs

– Mia Quezada 15/15 serving, 2 kills, 5 blocks and 4 digs

– Betzy Alvarado 11/13 serving, 5 kills, 2 blocks and 16 digs

– Jessica Milsap 14/14 serving, 7 kills and 7 digs

– Djenna Garnotel 14/14 serving and 33 digs

Lone Pine will find out their CIF Central Section playoff opponent on Friday when pairings are released.
