Galaxy add Puig from Barcelona, move Raveloson
The Galaxy had a busy Transfer Deadline Day.
It started with midfielder Rayan Raveloson being moved to Auxerre in the French Ligue 1. Meanwhile, the Galaxy brought in Riqui Puig on a free transfer from Barcelona.
The MLS secondary transfer window closes Thursday.
Raveloson joined the Galaxy last season on a free transfer from ES Troyes AC in France. It was reported that the club sold him to Auxerre for nearly $2 million.
He made 22 appearances, scoring five goals, last season and 21 appearances with eight goals this season. The French Ligue 1 season begins today.
Raveloson had a base salary of $780,000 with a guaranteed compensation increase to $855,025. Making that move allowed the Galaxy to bring in Puig on a Targeted Allocation Money deal.
“We are thankful and appreciative of Rayan’s contributions,” Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said. “We wish him the best as he returns back to Ligue 1 for the next phase of his career.”
Puig, 23, has been with Barcelona since 2013 and made his way to the first team in the 2020-21 season. He made 57 appearances.
He is signed to a threeyear contract through the end of the 2025 season.
Barcelona reserves the right to repurchase the player and will also receive 50% of any future sale.
“Riqui is a very technical and well-educated player with incredible experiences for his age,” Vanney said. “He will fit seamlessly into our group and style of play.”
Puig had one year left on his contract with Barcelona, but was left off of the traveling roster when the club visited the United States earlier this summer.
The Galaxy will visit Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. The Galaxy are ninth in the Western Conference standings. Kansas City is in last place.
