Seven-run second propels Giants against Nationals

Austin Slater smacked a three-run homer as part of a seven-run second inning against struggling Washington starter Patrick Corbin, and the San Francisco Giants cruised past the host Nationals 7-1 on Friday night.

Slater, hitting .105 coming into the game, lined Corbin’s 2-1 sinker to right center with one out to make it 4-0.

Brandon Crawford doubled leading off the second and then capped the scoring with a three-run double to left-center. That chased Corbin (03), who allowed seven runs on seven hits and three walks while recording just five outs.

Jakob Junis (1-0), called up earlier in the day from Triple-A Sacramento, tossed five scoreless innings of relief in his Giants debut. He allowed three hits and struck out four.

CARDINALS 4, REDS 2 >> Paul Goldschmid­t helped slow down rookie fireballer Hunter Greene, Steven Matz pitched one-run ball over five innings and St. Louis stretched host Cincinnati’s losing streak to 10 games.

Greene, out of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High, set a major league record with 39 fastballs of at least 100 mph in his previous start, but the 22-year-old topped out at 97.2 mph Friday.

Goldschmid­t had three hits, including a two-run single in the fourth,.

Yankees reliever Michael King struck out eight in three innings, fanning his last seven batters.

Judge put the Yankees ahead in the third inning against Eli Morgan (1-1) when he followed a two-out walk to DJ LeMahieu with a drive into the right field seats. Judge added a solo shot into the short porch in the fifth off 27-year old rookie Tanner Tully.

Jameson Taillon (1-1) allowed one run and seven hits in five innings to earn the win.

BRAVES 3, MARLINS 0 >> Kyle Wright had a career-high 11 strikeouts in six dominant innings, Matt Olson doubled in two runs in the seventh and Atlanta defeated visiting Miami.

Wright (2-0) allowed four hits with one walk. The right-hander has a 1.06 ERA after three starts. He set a career high in strikeouts for the second straight start, topping nine in five innings at San Diego on April 15.

PHILLIES 4, BREWERS 2 >> Alec Bohm hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the eighth as host Philadelph­ia ended Milwaukee’s four-game winning streak.

RED SOX 4, RAYS 3 >> Xander Bogaerts had three hits and scored twice and visiting Boston downed Tampa Bay.

Wander Franco, the Rays’ 21-yearold shortstop, had the first multihomer game of his career.

Michael Wacha (1-0) gave up two runs on three hits in five innings.

Corey Kluber (0-1) allowed four runs on 11 hits in five innings.

BLUE JAYS 4, ASTROS 3 >> Matt Chapman doubled home Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with two outs in the ninth inning and Toronto topped host Houston for its third straight win, while handing the Astros their third loss in a row.
