HOLTVILLE — New businesses and apartment complexes will be coming to this city.

City Manager Nicholas Wells reported the construction team hopes to have it completed by Oct. 1.
The chain store will be approximately 0.1 miles west of Family Dollar, another chain store in the city.
The building for the new Cuchi’s Raspados on West Fifth Street has been in construction for some time and seems to be nearing completion, Wells added, although he did not information on the expected opening date.
There are now two Donut Avenue shops in the city. The original location is on Pine Avenue.
A new location was built at the corner of
Fifth and Fern Avenue, and has been open for business for a few weeks now.
While its location on Pine Avenue is closed until further notice, Las Palmitas Taco Shop is aiming to create a new location within the city.
The taco shop brought its project to the city’s planning commission a few months ago and received conceptual approval.
“They are in the design phase and we await submission of plans for review,” Wells said of the taco shop’s new location.
ACE Hardware at 123 E. Fifth St. officially opened on Tuesday. It is at the former location of the Imperial Do-It Center.
The 43-unit mixed affordable housing project on the northwest corner of Fern and Fourth Street also is moving along, Wells said.
The project now has its structures fully framed and most walls already up. Wells said he did not have a firm expected date of completion for the project.
A 130-unit apartment complex on the northwest corner of Melon Avenue and 10th Street has yet to be fully approved.
Last week, the construction team completed its California Environmental Quality Act review, and has a few more steps in the approval process.
Construction is not imminent, Wells said.
A proposed project within the city, the Rose Apartments, is in the process of obtaining funding. It is only conceptual at this point, the city manager said.
