WINTERHAVEN — A San Pasqual Valley Unified School District custodian was arrested Thursday for allegedly committing lewd acts with a student, police and school o cials announced.
Jose Angel Torres-Carreon, 43, of Somerton, Ariz., was arrested following an Imperial County Sheri ’s Office investigation into the report of a past-occurred sexual battery on a six year-old female student.
It is alleged that the incident occurred during his working hours, an ICSO news release stated.
Torres-Carreon was booked into county jail on suspicion of lewd acts against a minor under 14 years old and held on $150,000 bail, ICSO stated. The ICSO news release stated the 43-year-old was employed by SPVUSD, and a district statement from Superintendent Rauna Fox further identified him as a custodian.
On Wednesday, SPVUSD was notified by the mother of a student that her child had been the victim of inappropriate touching by a district employee.
The mother was able to provide basic information but was not able to identify the employee in question, the district statement stated.
Based on the information provided, the district immediately notified law enforcement officials, who responded promptly and initiated a comprehensive investigation at San Pasqual Elementary School.
At the request of law enforcement, the district maintained strict confidentiality and cooperated fully in the investigation.
Law enforcement officials kept the district fully informed and, as a result of the prompt reporting, investigation and cooperation between the two agencies, the employee was identified by law enforcement on Thursday as Torres-Carreon.
ICSO stated the case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s O ce for review and potential prosecution.
No other victims have been identified; however, anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact ICSO’s Investigations Unit at (442)265-2045.
“The district is awaiting results of the law enforcement investigation and District Attorney review in order to complete the district’s investigation into this matter,” Fox stated. “No further information can be released by the district until all investigations are complete.”
