Murder-suicide leaves Seeley family in shock

- BY JULIO MORALES Staff Writer

SEELEY — The apparent murder-suicide on Wednesday night involving a young, married couple has left the extended family of the alleged victim in complete shock.

The young couple were widely described by the alleged victim’s surviving family members as always being highly a ectionate toward one another and never displaying any outward sign of antagonism or marital problems.

“They loved each other so much,” said Jose Molina, father of 24-year-old Lesley Molina, the alleged victim. “It’s just not possible.”

Lesley Molina reportedly was killed by her husband at their home in the 1700 block of Rio Vista Street at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Jose Molina said he was among the first to enter the house where the bodies were discovered and that he observed an apparent suicide note next to the body of his son-inlaw.

“Who knows what it says,” Molina said in Spanish.

For the past few years, Lesley Molina had attended Imperial Valley College, where she was studying psychology.

She had left a previous job in order to dedicate herself to her studies and the rearing of the married couple’s two young children, family members said.

“She was a beautiful child,” Jose Molina said.

The Mexicali natives relocated to Seeley about 20 years ago, and form part of a large extended family that also calls Seeley home, Molina said.

Just last weekend, the deceased and their extended family had travelled to the Sea of Cortez with their off-road vehicles in tow.

On Thursday, Molina sat in the shade of a tree in front yard of his eldest daughter’s home, located several houses down the block from the scene of the incident.

He was surrounded by several other grieving family members and friends of the family and repeatedly fielded telephone calls from people expressing their condolences.

“Everything is going to be OK,” Molina told one such caller.

The county Sheriff’s Office had received a 9-1-1 call about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday notifying it of suspicious activity and a possible medical emergency at the scene of the incident, said Lt. Jimmy Duran.

Arriving deputies had encountered some of the deceased’s family members on scene as well, and were able to gain access to the home’s interior, where the bodies were discovered.

One victim reportedly had multiple stab wounds, while the other had an apparent gunshot wound, Duran said, without disclosing which victim had sustained which wounds.

Although preliminary information suggests it was a murder-suicide, the incident remains under investigation, Duran said.

“It’s a very sad situation here for the small community of Seeley,” he said.
