El Centro Sunsations swimmmer
Last week, the El Centro Sunsations held its annual swim invite at Imperial Valley College.
The local swim squad welcomed seven other teams to the pool that day for competitive events between various age groups.
Dominating for the Sunsations in the boys’ 11-12-year-old division was Dominic Lerma.
Lerma competed in five events and took first place in all of them earning him the High Points Award at the end of the meet.
“It felt really good,” said Lerma on winning the award. “I felt like I did my dad proud.”
The 12-year-old took first in the 50 meter fly, 50 meter back, the 100 meter individual medley, 50 meter breast and the 50 meter free.
GRADE 8
Lerma said while he normally competes in four events, the IM was added to his list for the invite.
“I thought I was going to be dead for the IM because it was last, but I actually had the energy to get in and do it,” Lerma explained.
The soon-to-beeighth grader has been competing in swim for seven years now and said he enjoys the competition and the comradery between swimmers.
