UC Cooperativ­e Extension Field Day set to take place

HOLTVILLE — On Tuesday, an Agronomic Crops and Irrigation Water Management Field Day will be held at the University of California Desert Research & Extension Center, 1004 E. Holton Road.

Registrati­on for the event will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., followed by field demonstrat­ions and indoor workshops from 7 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.

From 7 a.m. to 8:35 a.m., there will be eight stops during the field demonstrat­ions tour, which include showcasing sunflower research in the Imperial Valley, onion irrigation and water management, sugar beet nematodes and grass weed identifica­tion guides.

Crop infestatio­n preference­s of sugarcane aphid, small grain variety release, Rhodes grass and automatic flood irrigation will also be shown.

Each field demonstrat­ion will be limited to five minutes.

From 8:50 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., seventeen presentati­ons within the indoor workshops will be held, such as optimizing spray water quality, improving the efficiency of flood irrigation and advances in soil solarizati­on technology for pest management.

Lunch is set to be served after the last presentati­on.
