East End Backyard
THE CONCEPT
Former Dynamo superstar Brian Ching’s sprawling outdoor drinking and dining venue in EaDo. This is his second concept in the neighborhood after Pitch 25, the soccer-themed bar he opened in 2018.
THE SPACE
The 16,000-square-foot property is set out on three sides by patio seating, including a fenced-in dog park. Set with an array of colorful furniture — picnic tables, sectionals, Adirondack chairs — the whole thing is anchored by a bar, designed by Liz Ching, set in a 1930s bungalow furnished with high-top tables made from recycled barn wood and antique bicycles.
THE FOOD
Food will come from a rotating lineup of food trucks that for now include Coffee-Q, Curbside Sliderz, Muiishi Makarritos, NOLA Poboys as well as from vendors such as Peli Peli. Order and take to your seat.
THE DRINKS
Twenty-five beers and ciders on tap as well as a full cocktail menu.
THE WORD
“The idea is to be a neighborhood bar that appeals to everyone — a great outdoor space with a great atmosphere to come and hang out with friends,” Ching said.
COVID CONSIDERATIONS
Servers wear masks; patrons are advised to wear masks if they move about the property. Plenty of socially distanced seating.
ONE MORE THING
The property includes two other bungalows, which Ching has planned to act as independent businesses that will feed into the bar’s atmosphere. One will be a taco shop, the other a merchandise store for artists Donkeeboy and Donkeemom (Alex Roman Jr. and his mother, Sylvia Roman), whose studio is about a mile from the bar.
