Boys
Chike Anigbogu, Ridge Point
Notable: The senior outside linebacker finished with 15 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, three sacks and one pass breakup in a 35-6 win over Elkins.
What coach Brett
Sniffin said: “He is also one of our team captains. Chike is a quiet leader of the team who performs well week in and out to lead our defense. He is a two-year starter and is still getting better with each game.”
Other nominees
Michael Batton, Seven
Lakes: Batton had a career night at the right time for the Spartans, setting personal bests with 212 passing yards, four touchdown passes and five total touchdowns in a 42-35 win against Mayde Creek.
Ronald Holmes,
Northside: Holmes kept the Panthers in contention for their first playoff berth in 10 years, accounting for six touchdowns in a 59-0 win over Sharpstown. He completed 16 of 24 passes for 286 yards and five scores, and he added 98 yards and another score on nine carries. Ian Wheeler, St. Thomas: Wheeler needed only 10 carries to amass 165 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles beat San Antonio Central Catholic 49-21.
Girls
Ellie Catron,
The Woodlands Christian
Notable: The junior is a cross country state champion for a second consecutive year, running a twomile time of 12:35.7 to win the TAPPS 4A individual gold at the state meet in Waco. The Woodlands Christian Academy boys and girls teams swept the state team titles for the second consecutive year. What coach Tom Earle
said: “Ellie has been a huge part of our team. She works out with the boys most of the time. She’s incredible.”
Other nominees
Michelle Klein, Cypress Ranch: Cypress Ranch defeated Tomball Memorial twice in district play, Oct. 23 and the following Friday, to determine first and second place in District 14-6A. Klein had 21 kills and 20 digs in a five-set win over the Wildcats, clinching a co-district championship.
Audrey Phillips, Travis: Phillips recorded 22 kills and five blocks to lead the Tigers to a four-set win against rival Bush in the regular season finale. Madison Schultz,
Needville: Schultz led the Blue Jays with 20 kills and two aces, adding two blocks and 14 digs while fielding a team-high 22 serves with only one error as Needville defeated Fulshear in four sets to share the District 25-4A championship with the Chargers.
