Eovaldi misses perfection in win
NEW YORK — Nathan Eovaldi took a perfect game into the seventh inning, C.J. Cron hit an early three-run homer, and the Tampa Bay Rays routed the New York Mets 9-0 on Sunday.
Eovaldi retired his first 18 batters before Brandon Nimmo lined a clean single to right field leading off the seventh. Nimmo was quickly erased on a double play, and Eovaldi faced the minimum through seven innings.
The righthander, who returned this season from his second Tommy John surgery, struck out nine and helped himself with an RBI single.
Shohei Ohtani scored the goahead run on a pinch-hit homer in the seventh inning as the Angels topped the visiting Dodgers.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched impressively into the sixth inning, and visiting Texas blanked Detroit. Wil Myers homered for the fourth time in two days to send visiting San Diego to a 16-inning victory over Arizona. Brett Gardner hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the 10th inning, and visiting New York beat Toronto. Rick Porcello pitched seven effective innings, and Boston beat host Kansas City. David Bote drove in the gamewinning run with a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning, lifting host Chicago to a win over Cincinnati. Nick Kingham pitched six solid innings and had two RBIs, helping Pittsburgh top visiting Philadelphia.
Ryon Healy homered and tied a career high with five RBIs, leading host Seattle to a win over Colorado.
Brett Anderson came off the disabled list and pitched effectively into the sixth inning as visiting Oakland downed Cleveland.
Mitch Garver, Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier homered as Minnesota topped visiting Baltimore. Pablo Sandoval homered and had five RBIs as host San Francisco beat St. Louis. J.T. Realmuto drove in three runs as Miami defeated host Washington. Jesus Aguilar homered twice, and host Milwaukee beat Atlanta.
