JOHN “SONNY” CLIFTON PHILPOT

1941-2018

John “Sonny” Clifton Philpot was born on December 27, 1941 in Houston, TX and went to Heaven on March 13, 2018. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Clifton and Florence Philpot, brother William Philpot, sisters Virginia “Sissy” Vezorak and Mary “Scooter” Atkinson. He is survived by his wife Melva; daughters Donna Fuller and husband Tim, Tammie Norris and husband Joe, Sonya Miller and husband Billy, and Belinda Myers and husband Kenny; grandchildren Courtney Nobles and husband Clay, Thomas Fuller, Ty Miller and wife Alyssa, Violet Fuller, Jeremy Myers and wife Valerie, Rachel Norris, Andrew Myers, Amanda Myers, and Blake Miller; great grandchildren Trevor Nobles and Emily Myers, cousin Betty Jean Patterson, brother-inlaws, sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Sonny was a simple man who loved his family and friends dearly. He was a loving husband to his wife, Melva, for nearly 59 years; devoted dad to his four daughters and son-in-laws whom he loved as sons; papaw to his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother to his siblings and their spouses; uncle to all his nieces and nephews whom he adored; cousins; and friend to all. He was dedicated to those whom he worked with, even after retirement. Sonny was a humble man whose greatest wealth did not come from financial gain but through compassion and acts of kindness for others, never meeting a stranger nor letting anyone go hungry. His greatest joy was in the quality time he spent with each grand and great grandchild; his greatest pleasure was being outside and working in his yard. Sonny inspired others and will never be forgotten. “His legacy will live on through his children, their children and their children, and to people we will never know.”
