John Charles Nolan, 59, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 in Dallas, Texas with loving family and friends by his side. He was born on March 5, 1958 in Monroe, Louisiana to Rev. William Earl Nolan and Barbara DeMoss Nolan. John grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Southfield High School in 1976. He attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

John was a true follower of Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior and was proud to share his strong faith with those around him. John was bigger than life and literally had thousands of friends, some of whom lovingly knew him as “Big John” or “Grande Juan.” He always entered a room with a smile on his face, a hug and a story to tell. John was compassion­ate, kind and generous. He was deeply involved in numerous charities and had a special place in his heart for military veterans, especially those wounded in combat.

John is preceded in death by his grandparen­ts, Mildred and William Nolan, Jeanne and Walter DeMoss, his mother, Barbara DeMoss Nolan and his brother William Nolan. He is survived by two devoted sons, Taylor and Travis Nolan and their mother Mindy Nolan; his beloved partner Kathleen Hutchinson and her daughters Tess Merriman (Ed), Rachel Hutchinson (Ben Stocker), and Holly Hutchinson; his father and stepmother, Rev. and Mrs. William Earl Nolan; brother and sister-inlaw, Mary and Joel Nolan; sister, Julie Nolan Loker; as well as many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends.

John was an avid outdoorsma­n. He loved to fish, hunt and share stories about his adventures. His colorful and exotic tales were legendary. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends. John showered his family and friends with love, laughter, gifts and especially his time. His most precious times were spent with his beloved Kathleen, his boys, and Kathleen’s daughters.

He had a successful career in the oil and gas industry. He began his career with UTTCO and, subsequent­ly worked for Midcon, Cornerston­e Natural Gas and ultimately was one of the original members of Energy Transfer Partners.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses, doctors and staff at Baylor Scott & White for the loving care they bestowed on John during his final days.

Visitation to be Friday, February 23, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Fellowship Church Grapevine, 2450 N. Highway 121, Grapevine, Texas 76051, with Senior Pastor Ed Young officiatin­g. Reception immediatel­y following.

Pallbearer­s are Travis Nolan, Taylor Nolan, John Edwards, Kurt Wells, John Wayne Walding, Joe Zito, William Munson, Ed Merriman and Ben Stocker; Honorary Pallbearer­s are Kelcy Warren, Roger Smith, Cliff Harris, Clay Kutch, Richard Rogers, Daryl Snadon, Doug Barnes and Richard Cheatham.
