After high school Malcolm joined the Army, serving until the end of WWII, at which point he earned his Masters Degree from Indiana University.

In1955, Malcolm began a life-long passion for social work as director of the Day Nursery Association of Indianapolis which catapulted his long career at The Neighborhood Centers (1958-1985). He was Executive Director of the Houston Day Care Association and became part of a small team in Washington DC that created the Headstart program. In 1985 he retired from Neighborhood Centers and became Director of the Houston Center for the Retarded and in 1986 took over as Director of Covenant House until he retired in 1990. WHEW, not done yet! He also taught psychology, home and family, and nonprofit management at The University of Houston and Houston Baptist University. On the side he taught children’s Sunday School and adult Bible Study at St. Paul Presbyterian Church. In his free time his greatest passion was coaching his children’s ball teams.

Even after retiring he continued to consult children’s organizations including Cheri’s non-profit preschool, Sage Cottage.

Malcolm was an innovative, forward thinker with an incredible zest for social justice. He will be greatly missed but his love and legacy will live on.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to Sage Cottage School (mail checks to 142 Meadow Ln. White Rock, NM 87547).
