Bellville girls doubles team advances to state tourney final
The Houston area’s only hope for bringing home the gold from the state tennis tournament at College Station lies with the Bellville girls doubles team of Carrsyn Gregor and Kendall Jablonowski.
Gregor and Jablonowski advanced to Tuesday’s Class 4A final after two impressive victories Monday. The duo defeated Krum’s Maggie Quy and Jane Speiser 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals but needed a tiebreaker to oust Fredericksburg’s Myra Powell and Claire Maxcey 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Gregor and Jablonowski will play Longview Spring Hill’s Marby Nichols and Lexi Penn for the 4A crown Tuesday.
In Class 6A mixed doubles, Fort Bend Austin’s Nate Reekie and Alana Larcombe defeated Lubbock Coronado’s Katia Mathews and Dalton Moore 6-5, 7-6 (7) in the quarterfinals before falling to New Braunfels’ TJ Fumagalli and Dean Dulthummon 6-1, 6-3.
In Class 6A girls doubles, Clements’ Nikita Pradeep and Sanhna Tripathy lost to Plano West’s Courtney Fenech and Tiffany Hollebeck 6-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the semifinals after an earlier 6-2, 6-4 win over Austin Bowie’s Mariya Shkolnaya and Jolie Francis.
In 6A mixed doubles, Cypress Ranch’s Dylan Payne and Melissa LaMette advanced to the semifinals with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory over Abilene’s Rachel Funk and Lane Adkins before falling to Phillip Quinn and Chandler Carl of Dallas Highland Park 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2.
In Class 6A boys singles, Tompkins’ Anish Sriniketh lost to Lake Travis’ Jordan Pitts 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Seven Lakes’ Allen Chen and Sai Polepally came into the state tournament on a roll but stumbled to McAllen Memorial’s Alan Magadan and Daniel Magadan 6-1, 6 (4)-7, 6-4 in a 6A boys doubles quarterfinal match.
Tuesday’s finals begin at 8:30 a.m. for each class.
