Jerry Clinton Powell, 79, of Houston, died March 11, 2018, under the care of The Concierge and Houston Hospice.

Jerry was born November 1,1938, in Camden, TX, to Jesse and Lorine (Jordan) Powell.

He attended Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, TX. He continued his education at The University of Houston in Electrical Engineerin­g.

Jerry was the owner and president of Powell Control for over 35 years. Powell Control was a supplier of electrical switchgear and motor controller­s to the energy industry. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineerin­g.

Jerry took immense joy in sailing. He sailed his boats through Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay and Corpus Christi Bay many times. He was always most relaxed with his hands at the helm. Jerry also appreciate­d cars, especially fast ones. In addition to owning many, he went to the Indy 500 which brought him much enjoyment. Most of all Jerry loved spending time with his family and many, many friends. He was a generous and loving son, husband, father, grandfathe­r, father-inlaw, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Paulette Powell, of 23 years; his only child, Susie Herrmann and husband, Steve, of Dallas. Also surviving Jerry are his grandsons Preston and Blaine; sister Gloria Markle; sister Sarah Boudreaux and husband Paul; niece Cassie Watson, and husband Dale; nephew Paul Boudreaux, III, and wife Tracy.

A memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 29 at 11:00 am, in Hankamer Chapel of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive. Immediatel­y following, guests are invited to greet the family during a reception at the church.
