UConn alum Mosqueda-Lewis acquired in deal with Storm
UConn will once again be represented on the Connecticut Sun roster in 2020.
The team announced Monday it has acquired guard Kaleena MosquedaLewis from the Seattle Storm in exchange for a 2021 second-round pick. Mosqueda-Lewis played at UConn from 2011-15, scoring 15.3 points per game and setting the program’s all-time 3-point record. Selected No. 3 overall in the 2015 WNBA draft, she averaged 5.3 points over five seasons with Seattle, helping the Storm to a league title in 2018.
“We are excited to add Kaleena to our talented roster,” Sun coach and general manager Curt Miller said in a statement. “She has won championships at every level and has a reputation as a great teammate. Our offensive philosophy revolves around spacing with players that can help spread the floor. KML is one of the outstanding shooters in our game and will provide an important spark to our offense.”
Mosqueda-Lewis is the only UConn alum currently on the Sun roster, after forward Morgan Tuck was traded to Seattle earlier this month. The Sun have had at least one former UConn player on the roster every year of the franchise’s existence.
“I’m really excited to start a new journey in Connecticut,” MosquedaLewis said in a statement. “It was a second home for me for four years, and I’m looking forward to being back.”
The Sun, who reached the WNBA Finals last year, have had a busy offseason, re-signing franchise centerpiece Jonquel Jones and adding All-Star forward DeWanna Bonner, while also trading Tuck to Seattle and guard Courtney Williams to Atlanta.
