Panhandle State Century Club to rennovate Hughes-Strong Hall
GOODWELL – Oklahoma Panhandle State University’s (OPSU’s) Century Club has announced that its proceeds this year will be used toward the restoration of Hughes-Strong Hall, a building used by both students and community members.
“At Oklahoma Panhandle State University, we pride ourselves on our legacy of excellence,” said OPSU President Dr. Tim Faltyn. “As we celebrate our history by continuing to recognize historic areas on campus, this year we will renovate the lobby of Hughes-Strong Hall.”
The remodel of the lobby area will feature a glass case to display the original Sower statue, one of the most iconic features of OPSU’s campus. The restoration of the Sower was the Century Club’s first project—in 2019, the Sower was taken down for repairs and replaced with a bronze casting of the statue. The donors’ names are engraved on
plaques to be placed at the bottom of the bronze statue to honor those who contributed to the first-ever Century Club project. “This project was a great way to inspire a new generation of supporters who could invest in one of the most historical and iconic features of our campus,” Dr. Faltyn commented.
Founded in 2019, the Century Club is a designated group of OPSU supporters who give $100 or more annually. The organization is committed to celebrating and preserving historic areas on campus. This year, all donors will receive special recognition including a lapel pin, a Century Club decal and plaques. To become a Century Club member, visit: centuryclub.opsu.edu.
