Enterprise-Record (Chico)

Wet and chilly golf days

- Ed Anderson

The team of Paul McIntosh, Hal Sinclair, Jim Ponzio and Bob Kromer took first in the Canyon Oaks Senior Men’s Club monthly senior sweeps tournament via a card off over the team of George Morris, Greg Smith, Dave Kelly and Hal Currier after both teams came in with a score of 55.

The format was called

“Best NET 36,” wherein each team would record its best net score(s), or none on each hole before preceding to the next tee; however, each team was required to record 36 net scores. Sort of akin to a fourman, two best-ball except teams had the luxury of counting all four scores on a hole, or none.

Finishing in the third spot with a score of 62, was the team of Scott Borges, David Payne, Garland Taylor and Larry Long. Closest to the pin winners: No. 3, Sinclair; No. 6, Jim Gochnauer; No. 11, Marty Coil; No. 14, Steve Simpson.

The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club held a threeplayer, two best ball format for its weekly game.

Linda Allen was low gross shooting an awesome score of 82 under tough course and weather conditions. Linda Alworth was low net on the day with a 72. Game: 1, Nancy Vieira, Gina Davie and Pat Radisich, 137; 2, Cynthia Paulo, Marilyn Brownfield and Alworth, 142. Closest to pin on No. 6: 1, Melinda Self; 2, Paulo; 3, Brownfield.

The Butte Creek Women’s

Golf Club took the driver and fairway metals out of the bag for its weekly tournament, relying on hybrids, irons and a putter. But, as usual when playing without all 14 clubs, the scores did not seem to change much.

Irma Jenkins was both low net and low gross on the day 96/77 to take top honors in both categories. Sandy Fortino finished second with a net score of 79. Jeanie Lowe and Barbara Joronen tied for the third spot with a score of 81.
