Junction City rallies for 10-9 win over Parkers Chapel

JUNCTION CITY - Junction City scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and downed Parkers Chapel 10-9 in a back-andforth league matchup on Friday. The Lady Dragons improved to 8-2 while the Lady Trojans slipped to 2-3.

Parkers Chapel rallied from a 6-1 deficit, scoring six runs in the fourth inning. It was the first of four lead changes over the final four innings.

Trailing 9-8 in the seventh, the Lady Dragons’ mounted a one-out rally. Makayla Knight walked. Zamya Cunningham was hit by a pitch. Gracie Brown singled to load the bases. Karla Castillo walked to drive in a run before Jess Thurman walked on four pitches to drive in Cunningham with the winning run.

The Lady Dragons had seven hits against PC pitcher McKenzie Norris, who pitched 6 ⅓ innings, walking 11 and striking out five.

Castillo started in the circle for Junction City, throwing 3 ⅔ innings, allowing seven runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Thurman earned the win in relief, hurling 3 ⅓ innings, allowing two runs on two hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Junction City scored three runs in the first. The Lady Trojans got a run back in the top of the third before the Lady Dragons tallied three in the bottom of the third. Emilee Bovee had a RBI single in the inning.

Parkers Chapel came back with six runs in the fourth. Makenzie Morgan singled, stole second and scored when Addalyn Adams singled. Carlee Cater singled home a run. Brookelynn Porter reached on an error. Another run scored when Bella Frisby’s flyball was misplayed. Reaux McAuliffe stroked a two-run single and later scored on a passed ball for a 7-6 lead.

Junction City regained the lead with two in the fifth. Valarie Kidwell and De’Nyah Brown both walked and Raylynn Massey was hit by a pitch. Kidwell stole home and Brown scored on a passed ball.

In the sixth, Parkers Chapel’s Tatum Watson hit a two-run single for a 9-8 lead.

DeWitt 6, Smackover 3

DEWITT - DeWitt scored four runs in the first and went on for a 3A 8 win over Smackover on Friday. The Lady Bucks fell to 5-3 on the season.

Neci Hill struck out seven and allowed six hits over seven innings for the Dragonette­s.

For Smackover, Ava Walker surrendere­d six runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

DeWitt took a 4-run cushion into the fifth before the Lady Bucks got on the board on a two-run, inside-the-park homer by Abby Brewer, who was 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Dragonette­s scored twice in the bottom of the fifth. Smackover countered with a run in the sixth. Taylor Darden singled and Emily Camacho doubled. Presley Ainsworth singled home a run. But Hill struck out the next two batters and got a fly ball for the third out.
