A 22-year-old man is expected to appear today in 35th Judicial District Court on a felony assault charge after he allegedly attacked his teenage ex-girlfriend with whom he had reportedly been barred from having any contact.

Malik I. Hill, of the 1000 block of West Oak, was arrested Monday for aggravated assault on a family or household member and a misdemeanor charge of violation of a no contact order.

At 12:20 a.m., El Dorado police responded to a report of a female shouting for help in the 400 block of West Oak.

Police said they saw a male, later identified as Hill, walking north through the alleyway of an apartment complex in the area of Oak and Elm. Police said the male was attempting to put on a white T-shirt.

Upon seeing officers, the suspect turned south and ducked around a corner, where officers lost sight of him, according to a police report.

Moments later, multiple residents of the apartment complex told officers they had heard a female screaming for help.

While searching for the victim, police made contact with a 17-year-old girl on the front porch of a residence in the 400 block of West Elm.

Police said the girl appeared distraught, noting that she was crying and “out of breath.” The girl said she had been involved in an altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Hill.

She said she and Hill began arguing at his residence and she told him that she was going to walk home.

Hill followed the girl and as they neared the apartment complex, Hill blocked her path, removed his shirt and placed her in a headlock from behind, the victim said.

She said Hill then covered her mouth and nose with the shirt in an attempt to prevent her from breathing.

The girl said she tried to break away from Hill’s grasp but he continued “attempting to suffocate her.” She said began screaming for help

and Hill flung her to the ground.

The victim said she later made it to her residence. She provided a description of the suspect and police noted the description fit that of the male they had seen when they initially arrived on the scene.

Officers made contact with Hill at his residence and took him into custody.

Police noted the teen had an active no contact order against Hill.

Hill is scheduled for a first appearance hearing today in district court.
