Former PC standout garners accolade
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — After receiving AllRegion honors from two different publications for his efforts this season, Henderson State's Taylor Langston picked up his biggest recognition thus far when he was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Langston, a former standout at Parkers Chapel who was a 2018 First Team All-Region reliever according to both the NCBWA and the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA), becomes the eighth Reddie in program history to earn AllAmerican honors and is just the third to receive NCBWA recognition.
A junior, Langston transferred to Henderson State this season and quickly solidified himself as the go-to arm late in games for the Reddies.
He made 19 appearances this year, carried a 1.63 ERA, allowed just five runs in 27 2/3 innings of work and picked up nine saves for Henderson State.
The big right-hander struck out 31 batters and allowed just two walks this season.
After allowing two runs against Tarleton State on Feb. 2, Langston did not give up another until April 20 against Northwestern Oklahoma State, which broke a streak of 13 games and 20 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. The Reddies have now had a player receive All-American honors in each of the last four seasons.
Langston joins 2015 honoree Nick Vanthillo as the only relievers in program history to be named to an AllAmerican team by any publication.
