MAD announces Movie Mondays

Plays, improv set for June performanc­es

The Murphy Arts District has announced several new summer events in El Dorado, starting with Movie Mondays.

According to a news release, MAD will begin showing a free movie every Monday night from June 4 through Aug. 27 at the MAD amphitheat­er, across from the children’s playscape, which will have its grand opening on Saturday. Admissions is free and movies will start at 7:30 p.m., being shown on a 30-foot-tall inflatable screen that fills the amphitheat­er stage.

People are encouraged to bring blankets or the short beach-style chairs that meet MAD requiremen­ts. For a full list of rules and guidelines, visit eldomad.com.

The Movie Mondays schedule is:

June 4: “Sing”

June 11: “Zootopia”

June 18: “The Secret Life of Pets” June 25: “The Jungle Book”

July 2: “Lilo & Stitch”

July 9: “Moana”

July 16: “Finding Nemo”

July 23: “Finding Dory”

July 30: “The Little Mermaid” Aug. 6: “Spiderman Homecoming” Aug. 13: “Iron Man”

Aug. 20 & 27: TBD.

And when it comes to live performanc­es, MAD will continue to bring in new acts, with the Muses Creative Artistry Project presenting a fully staged production of “Man of La Mancha,” the musical tale inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th century novel “Don Quixote,” at 7 p.m. June 13.

The Second City Summer Blockbuste­r also will head to El Dorado in June, bringing its newest crop of future comedy stars to the Griffin Restaurant stage at 8 p.m. June 14. The Second City is a famed improv group from Chicago that claims Tina Fey, John Belushi, Stephen Colbert, Bill Murray, Amy Poehler and Gilda Radner among its alumni. And to round out June’s live performanc­e schedule will be the Arkansas Shakespear­e Theater presenting “Much Ado About Nothing” on the Griffin Restaurant stage at 7 p.m. June 19. The one-hour family Shakespear­e adaptation is meant as an introducti­on to Shakespear­e with a cast of eight people covering 22 characters in a comedy exploring the ups and downs of love.
