Parkers Chapel downs Smackover in tourney

CROSSETT - T.J. Bale's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted Parkers Chapel to a 5-4 win over Smackover in the Crossett Tournament Friday night.

The Trojans tied the game in the fifth when Trace Shoup doubled and scored on an error.

The Buckaroos led 4-3 after three innings. In the first, Alex Burris singled, stole second and scored on an error. In the second, Noah Wilson walked and Cade Schibler doubled. Jordan Brock followed with a two-run single. Wilson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third.

For Parkers Chapel, Carson Worthey singled in a run in the first and scored himself on an error.

The Trojans had five runs on six hits with two errors. Bale was 2-for-3 at the plate. Tyler Martin was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing just one hit in three innings with six strikeouts.

Smackover had four runs on five hits while committing four errors. Burris was 2-for-3 at the plate. Wilson started on the mound and went 4 2/3, allowing four runs on four hits with five walks and eight strikeouts. Smith allowed a run on two hits and took the loss in relief.

The Bucks opened the tournament with a 6-2 loss to Southside Bee Branch. Smackover committed five errors in the game behind hard-luck starter Schibler, who allowed just two hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 4 2/3. Of the six runs, none were earned.

Smackover scored a run in the second when Jackson Cook drew a bases loaded walk. In the sixth, Burris singled and scored on a wild pitch.

Burris and Brock had two hits apiece and Josh Saulbury went 1-for-2.

Smackover (3-4) travels to Crossett today at 5 p.m.
