City Arrests

• Larry D. Binion, 51, of Greenwood, Mississipp­i, was arrested Tuesday on a Mississipp­i Department of Correction­s warrant for parole violation/probation revocation. Binion was already being held in the Union County Jail on a $100,000 bond for separate charges, including commercial burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and theft of property.

• Timothy A. Lowery, 50, of 707 S. Smith, was arrested Monday on an Arkansas Parole Board warrant for absconding.

• Johnathan M. Hall, 19, of 1019 Short W. Second, was arrested July 27 on a Union County Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear on a felony charge of first-degree forgery. Hall was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the area of Church and Jefferson.

City Reports

• Police were called Monday to Mellor Park Mall, 1875 N. West Ave., in reference to a burglary. Several items were reported missing from the events center and equipment room, including two batteries from a sky lift, four microphone­s and stands, a sound mixer, equalizer, wireless microphone transmitte­r, radio and three amplifiers. Police said there were no signs of forced entry into the event center, but it appeared the door to the storage room may have been pried open. Police also learned that electrical wiring may have been damaged in the burglary.

• A woman told police Monday that her ex-boyfriend broke into her residence in the 100 block of Oakhurst and struck her in the face. The woman said she was outside talking with her boss when the suspect drove up. She said she ran inside her residence and locked the door, and the suspect began banging on the door and calling her cellular phone. She said he then kicked in the door and struck her in the face. He attempted to strike her again, but she was able to avoid the strike, the woman said. She said he then left the residence. A witness provided a similar account of the incident, saying that just after the victim ran inside the residence, she heard a bang and saw the suspect standing inside the residence. The suspect struck woman so hard, she fell against the wall, the witness told police. The witness said the suspect attempted to strike the victim a second time, but he missed when the suspect ducked. The victim told police she has an order of protection against the suspect. Police said the woman had a small scratch on her left cheek and blood on her left ear but declined medical attention. Police noted damage to the front door.

• Officers responded Monday to a burglar alarm at a residence in the 400 block of North Mosby. A woman told police that a condemnati­on order from the city was missing. She said the order pertained to the stove inside the residence.

• A man told police Sunday that his ex-girlfriend broke into his residence in the 800 block of Robinson and stole a cellular phone and two surveillan­ce cameras from the porch. He said he noticed that the phone was missing after a friend notified him that she was receiving text messages from the phone. He said he then went outside and saw his ex-girlfriend in the driveway. He said that when he asked the suspect to return his phone, she made a profane statement and drove away. Police said they made contact with the victim and suspect the following day at the suspect’s residence in the 1100 block of West Faulkner. They said the suspect consented to a search, but they did not find the phone. Police said they advised the pair to stay away from each other.

• Officers responded Monday to a report of a dog attack Barnyard RV Park, 1752 Haynesvill­e Hwy. A man told officers that he was walking his dog when his neighbor’s dog — described as a pit bull by Animal Control Officer Charles Hartsell — attacked his dog. Hartsell said the dog that was attacked was likely a terrier mix, noting that the dog was not seriously injured. The man’s neighbor said the pit bull slipped through a crack in the screen/sliding door ran out and attacked the smaller dog. Animal control has the pit bull in custody and is awaiting confirmati­on of rabies shots. Hartsell said the owners are considerin­g options of euthanizat­ion or removing the dog from Union County.

• A man told police Sunday that he was struck by a vehicle while walking in the 1200 block of West Hillsboro. He said the incident occurred at approximat­ely 6 a.m. as he was headed to a convenienc­e store in the area. He said a silver Toyota Camry struck him with the left front bumper, and he was sucked underneath the car, which then ran over his right leg and drove away. Police noted that the man was using a crutch on his right side and had minor scrapes on his right elbow and buttocks. The man told police that he had not sought medical attention, and police advised him to do so. The man could not provide any suspect informatio­n but said he had previously seen the vehicle in a nearby apartment complex.

• A woman told police Sunday that her ex-boyfriend had been harassing her for about two weeks, and as she left for work Sunday, he was standing in the street in front of her residence in the 800 block of North Park. She said the suspect began professing his love for her, as he had previously done on multiple occasions. She said she then left for work, and the man followed her and continued professing his love for her once she arrived at work. She told police that the man has also previously followed her to work. Police learned the victim had an active order of protection against the suspect. Witnesses at her workplace said the suspect had come there several times looking for the woman, prior to her seeking the protection order. Police said the incident on Sunday was captured on surveillan­ce video at an adjoining business.

• On Friday, a woman told police that someone broke into her residence in the 400 block of West Main; The woman said she was in Camden when she received call from the alarm company, telling her that motion was detected inside her residence at approximat­ely 2:38 a.m. Police it appeared the suspect(s) cut and ripped away the screen from carport window. They also said the back door of the residence appeared to have been pried open. The woman said security keypad had also been pulled from the wall. No items were reported missing.

• On Thursday, police were called to Neely Wholesale, 2021 N. College, in reference to a burglary. Police said the suspect(s) pulled away a portion of the metal siding on the back wall. It did not appear as if anyone had entered the building, police said.

• A woman told police on Thursday that someone attempted to break into her residence in the 400 block of North Parkway. She said a window had been broken and the couch moved, but it did not appear as if the suspect(s) had entered the house.

• A manager of Family Dollar, 701 E. Hillsboro, reported on Thursday that that an employee had been stealing money from the business. The complainan­t said an internal investigat­ion revealed that the suspect had been undercharg­ing the purchases of customers for several weeks and taking money from the cash register, totaling approximat­ely $3,000 - $4,000.

• On July 26, a woman told police that someone entered her vehicle at a residence in the 900 block of East Oak and stole her purse, which contained $25 cash, two credit cards, a debit card, driver’s license, and Social Security card. An hour earlier, police had been called to a nearby residence in the 400 block of North Mosby in reference to a report of attempted breaking or entering. A man told officers that his antitheft car alarm system sounded at approximat­ely 9:30 p.m., and he saw two males fleeing from the area. The incident was captured on surveillan­ce video. Police said a black male wearing a light-colored shirt and shoes and what appeared to be blue jeans rode up to the residence on a bicycle, walked into the driveway and briefly disappeare­d out of the camera’s range. A second black male wearing a light-colored, short-sleeved T-shirt and light-colored shorts stood at the end of driveway and appeared to be keeping watch as the first suspect walked around the property. A short time later, police said the first suspect walked to the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle and attempted to open the door. When the alarm sounded, the first suspect got back on bicycle and rode away as the second suspect fled on foot. Police said it did not appear as if the suspects entered the vehicle.

• Police responded on July 26 to a report of endangerme­nt to the welfare of a minor. A woman told officers she had gone to a residence in the 900 block of Louisiana after work to pick up her son, an infant. She said she learned the child’s father had picked up the baby, but no one at the residence knew where he took the child. She said she found the baby at Bradley Woods Apartments, 912 N. Yocum, noting that the baby was left unattended on the trunk of a car and the outside temperatur­e was nearly 100 degrees at the time. She said a teenage girl approached her told her, “There’s your baby.” Another woman later refuted the statements, telling police the baby was in her custody when his mother arrived, and the mother picked up the baby from inside her apartment. Police said the second woman’s daughter corroborat­ed the statements. The complainan­t said she later saw the baby’s father enter a residence in the 800 block of South Jackson, and when she knocked on the door, another man answered and told her that her baby’s father was not there. She said the man then shoved her, causing her to fall off the steps and sustain minor injuries to the right side of her face.

• A man told police on July 26 that someone stole his wallet, which contained a debit card and driver’s license. He said he had left his wallet inside his vehicle at his mother’s residence in the 500 block of Robin Road on July 22, and three days later, he discovered that someone had fraudulent­ly used debit card to make several transactio­ns, including the purchase of prepaid minutes for a cellular phone and to pay an electric bill. A suspect was identified.

• A man reported on July 26 the theft of fishing equipment from a boat at his residence in the 800 block of West Elm. Several rods, two reels and two tackle boxes and a bass net, all with an estimated value of $2,000, were reported stolen. The man said some of the some rods were laying outside the boat, and others were inside the boat, which was parked next to his house.

• A man told police on July 26 someone entered his vehicle and carport at his residence in the 400 block of North Thompson. He said his vehicle was unlocked and the key was in the ignition. He said the key to the vehicle and a weedeater were missing.

• On July 26, a man told police that someone broke into his residence in the 100 block of East Midway and stole Oxycodone pills and an amplifier to a car stereo.

• An employee of Entergy said 2415 N. West Ave., reported on July 25 that two rolls of copper wire were stolen from the bed of a pickup truck.

• On July 24, officers received a call for assistance at the Social Security Office, 2600 W. Hillsboro. An security guard there told police who had detained two people, a husband and wife, who had been arguing and using profanity outside the building. The complainan­t said the couple had stopped their vehicle on the driveway in the parking lot and blocked the entrance. When he told him to move the vehicle, the man responded with profane language, and the woman directed several terroristi­c threats toward him. Police said the couple was released without charges.

• A man told police on July 24 that a man he knew issued a terroristi­c threat against him and his teenage daughter. He said the suspect has made similar threats in the past

• Two men reported on July 24 a burglary and theft at their residence in the 900 block of West Main. A video game system, several video games and DVDs, a laptop computer, portable media player and cellular phone were reported stolen. Witnesses reported seeing a black male wearing a black hoodie on the back porch of the residence

• Police responded on July 24 to a report of breaking or entering and criminal mischief at the South Arkansas Arboretum, 1506 Mount Holly Road. An employee told police that someone broke into a storage building on the arboretum grounds and stole a weed eater and a gasoline can with five gallons of gasoline. The complainan­t said a portion of the irrigation system had also been damaged, explaining that a section of the PVC pipe had been broken, causing water to spew.
