SAY HELLO TO THE DREW
Chair by Beautiful. After the last few years of designing for your kitchen countertop and stove, this is our very first drop in the home category with our friends at Walmart. We wanted to give you the coziest, happiest place, where you could nuzzle into the chair and feel enveloped by it, while we build out the rest of the collection that is coming this fall. It’s just the beginning.
It all began a year ago when I flew down to North Carolina and drove to High Point to meet with the kind folks at Living Style Group, a furniture manufacturer and distributor. After seeing what they are capable of and the quality of what they make, I knew I wanted to work with them. For every piece we design, they are able to work with pre-existing shapes that we can make our own or even create entirely new models from the ground up. Now we have an incredible partnership with them that is lively and interesting.
The Barrymore Brands team and our partners at Made by Gather joined forces with Brand Love Lab to really get to the heart of what we wanted this expansion to be. We talked about manifestos and asked ourselves what the Beautiful line really stands for. After some soul-searching and many mood boards, we have a clear vision. It means no sharp corners. It means expensive fabrics like bouclé, which is what we choose to offer on our first chair. It means being generous and thoughtful, and giving people what they need to live their real, beautiful life. It’s making lasting, stylish things at a different price point. Frankly, a better price point. The best one we can. Even though these are all made with elevated shapes and materials and
processes, it means putting something dependable and functional in a space for yourself that can actually hold your weight. Something that can be a resting place, a safe space, and a place where you feel comfortable. Always.
Everybody’s working so hard in this life to do their best. Working to get it done and do it all, with spinning plates and racing and running. We all need a place to stop, sit down, and take a big deep breath. And that is what I designed The Drew Chair for.
You’ll notice when you get in it that it has a lot more space than your average chair. The size of this chair is incredibly unique. You could conceivably fit two small people in it, and obviously someone who carries a great stature can sit comfortably in this chair, too. It wraps around you in a way, so you can put your arms on it, lean to one side, lay on your back, and throw your feet over it. There’s a lot more you can do in this chair than your average chair, because I didn’t want to make just another typical chair. The world has plenty of those. I wanted to make something different. Something that could serve as more than a chair.
I wanted to make a truly joyful, relaxing space where everybody’s worries could fall away for a moment. We all stress and care and run so fast in this life. They say that you should stop and smell the roses. I couldn’t agree more, but I would really love to have a few flowers in a vase next to a chair that I can lie down in and rest, giving me the feeling someone is caring for me for a change. All of this in a chair.
Can a chair really be more than a chair? I believe it can, and that’s why we wanted to enter the home space in a way that also brings in our Beautiful appliances and electronics. The story continues. As we expand into home, we have thought about your kitchen or open-concept living space and how it would all flow together. That’s what we wanted to do for you. It all performs aesthetically and perfectly, like a puzzle. I want to design and create and build out our home collection from kitchen to living room to bedroom — and we haven’t forgotten about your pets! — in a way that brings joy to your life and pleasure to your eyes.
I want things to be beautiful! You deserve nothing less than that calm and that peace. My hope is that joy can lead to a calmness in your mind and mental wellness. Not least of all to an appreciation for your space you’ve worked so hard for. You’ve earned this for yourself. Why shouldn’t it be beautiful?
