Gondol new director of Planning, Neighborhoods & Development
Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein has announced the appointment of Steven Gondol as director of the city’s Department of Planning, Neighborhoods & Development.
In this role, Gondol oversees seven divisions and more than 100 employees focused on ensuring stable and growing neighborhoods, fostering development opportunities and empowering residents to be stewards of their communities. Department functions include community planning, economic development and building/housing inspection.
Gondol has served as deputy director of the department since 2020 and has more than 20 years of experience in community planning spanning federal campus and facility design, neighborhood marketing and development, municipal planning and housing code enforcement.
Prior to joining the city of Dayton, Gondol worked in Baltimore, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Mason and Detroit, Mich. In Baltimore,
he served as executive director of Live Baltimore (livebaltimore.com), an initiative supporting residency and home ownership in urban neighborhoods.
Gondol earned a degree in Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati. He resides in Dayton’s University Row neighborhood with his wife and two children.
“I am confident in Steve’s ability to lead the city of Dayton’s efforts in neighborhood and community planning and development, including housing matters,” said Dickstein.
